Brain Injury Alliance of South Dakota's Board Meeting
The Brain Injury Alliance of South Dakota's board met on April 5, 2008 in Pierre, South Dakota. We discussed an assortment of initiatives as well as how to advance brain injury services in South Dakota. Discussions included the current brain injury services that are being provided at South Dakota Achieve and Community Transitions as well as proposed services at Sunset Manor in Irene, South Dakota (projected start date of July 1, 2008). We also discussed the upcoming 3rd Annual Black Hills Brain Injury Conference as well as the 2nd Annual National Brain Injury Employment Conference (see links at the bottom of this page for more information on these conferences). Governor Mike Rounds again denied a request for South Dakota to apply for a federal planning and implementation grant for brain injury. South Dakota is one of only two states in the country that have not applied for this grant (Louisiana is the other). As the grant changes each year, the Brain Injury Alliance of South Dakota will review the new grant when the guidelines are released and evaluate options to convince the state of South Dakota pursue it.
The Brain Injury Alliance of South Dakota had a booth at the 3rd Annual Black Hills Brain Injury Conference in Rapid City, SD on May 8-9, 2008. We were glad to meet several of you.
The Brain Injury Alliance of South Dakota's next board meeting is scheduled for August 1, 2008 in Chamberlain, South Dakota. We will be discussing brain injury challenges in South Dakota.
